“How have you never been to Food Truck Friday before?”
I heard that question at least five times last week when I went to South End for their weekly food truck rally. Yes, I’ve lived in Charlotte for 9 years, but I happen to live about 30-40 minutes away from all of the good stuff, so when it comes to Uptown gatherings, I usually make up a reasonable excuse for why I can’t go. Last Friday, however, I decided to finally check this event out, and I have to say that I had a great time.
Again, this was my first Food Truck Friday, so I spent a considerable amount of time exploring all of the dining options-there were 14 trucks present-before I happened upon the Hot Box truck. Their shrimp po’ boy special is really what lured me in, and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the pieces of it that made it into my mouth, and not onto my pants.
Now, while I did attended this event with four other people, I really can’t tell you what it was that they ate, or if they even enjoyed it; by the time that I got my order, it was all that I could do to find a proper spot where I could sit and enjoy it. Sorry not sorry.
Besides the food aspect of the whole event, Food Truck Friday is great if you’re into people-watching, and taking pictures of unsuspecting strangers. It gets pretty crowded as the sun goes down, but the atmosphere is great, and if you come prepared with chairs and/or a blanket, then it makes for a chill Friday night.
I’ve heard rumors of a food truck event that’s closer to my neck of the woods, so that’ll most likely be my next venture, but if you’re ever in the area on a Friday night, then I would definitely suggest checking out South End’s Food Truck Friday.
